At Humble Chips, we’ve always been passionate about creating the best organic Canadian potato chips for snack lovers across the country. Our journey began with a simple goal—bringing Canadians the delicious, high-quality snacks they deserve. But as we grew, so did our perspective. We started living more sustainably, embracing organic food, and making mindful choices at home and in our business.
When our son Wilder was born, we couldn’t ignore the slow pace of sustainable practices in the snack industry—especially when it came to packaging. As parents, we felt a deep responsibility to leave a better world for him, and that’s when we asked ourselves, “If nobody else is going to do it, why not us?”
And that’s how Humble Chips was born: out of our desire to create a positive impact on both the environment and the snack industry.
OUR MISSION
At Humble Chips, our mission is simple: to give back to the planet and future generations, one organic Canadian potato chip at a time. We’re committed to providing a better snack—one that’s healthier, tastier, and eco-friendly. Our goal? To make organic, sustainable snacks accessible to everyone and help create a more responsible future for our children and the generations to come.
We saw a huge gap in the market—organic chips that are both tasty and better for you. The options were few, and most popular chips were filled with artificial ingredients and unhealthy additives. We knew we could do better—and set out to create a healthier, more delicious potato chip.
By 2018, we were ready to launch, but we realized we had a bigger challenge to tackle: single-use plastic. With millions of chip bags piling up in landfills each year, we knew we had to innovate. We started working on compostable packaging—a sustainable solution that would reduce plastic waste without compromising the quality of our chips.
By 2019, we were testing our compostable bags while balancing full-time jobs. We were determined to find the perfect solution that would let our chips shine not just in taste, but in sustainability.
By 2021, we had a solid packaging solution, and were ready to pitch our eco-friendly chips to major retailers like Loblaws, Sobeys, and Whole Foods. We were thrilled when they showed interest. But, as with all things worth doing, there was a hiccup—our first production run didn’t quite meet our expectations. But we weren’t discouraged. We knew we’d get it right.
In February 2022, Humble Chips officially launched, and by June, we were rolling out Humble Packaging 2.0—a stronger, more eco-friendly bag that outperformed plastic. We were ecstatic to finally have packaging that was not only better for the planet, but also held up to the demands of the snack world.
In January 2023, we began shipping our chips in BPI-certified compostable bags, marking a huge milestone for us. We finally brought our vision of healthier, more sustainable snacking to life—and we're just getting started!
In 2024,after encountering product quality issues with compostable packaging, we pivoted again. We didn't want to give up on our initial goal of supporting the environment with our packaging, so we partnered with Plastic Negative, a leader in reducing and removing plastic waste from the environment. This collaboration allows us to stay aligned with our eco-conscious mission while providing a sustainable alternative to traditional packaging.
We have spent our entire working careers helping feed Canadians with snacks, an incredibly rewarding journey.
